Days in the Dioceses 2008 is a great opportunity for us to showcase Melbourne as a great place to celebrate our faith and share in all the excitement of a major event. Part of our vision is to leave a legacy for both the Melbourne region and the Catholic Youth of Melbourne. To do this, we will engage a team of Event Volunteers from the community to help during the event in July 2008.

Why volunteer for DID08 in Melbourne?


As a volunteer for Team DID08, you will gain the satisfaction of being part of the team that delivers this exciting event.

All volunteers will receive an exclusive Team DID08 uniform, transport to and from your shifts, a meal during your shift, training, and the opportunity to learn new skills and meet lifelong friends.


How many volunteers are required?


We are looking for approximately 650 volunteers, who will be required from 5 – 14 July 2008 to assist in all areas of the organisation. We are inviting anyone who is aged 18 or older, has lots of enthusiasm, is a team player, can demonstrate flexibility, is looking to have some fun and has commitment and respect for the values underpinning World Youth Day.


What is the time commitment?


The time commitment for Team DID08 Volunteers will vary depending on the role you are allocated to. Transport volunteers will need to be available from 5 – 14 July and Tourism volunteers will need to be available from 10 – 14 July. Please see position descriptions below for other roles. All volunteers must be available on the 11 July.

How do I become a Team DID08 Volunteer?


If you are interested in joining the team as a Team DID08 volunteer, please call 9412 8484 as we are no longer taking online applications.


All volunteers must have the right to perform voluntary work in Australia. If you are not an Australian Resident and are coming to Australia on a visa, please ensure that you are eligible to work in a voluntary capacity prior to submitting your application. Volunteers will be required to consent to a p

olice records check.

POSITION DESCRIPTIONS

Role Dates Position purpose
Transport Assistants 5 – 17 July 2008 To assist at each of the Transport Hubs (each region and the airport).
International Services 10 – 14 July 2008 To be an advocate of Melbourne as a city. To show the international delegates around and to assist the International Liaison Department.
Tourism Services  10 – 14 July 2008 To assist Melbourne visitors around the streets of Melbourne with directions, public transport and ideas for things to do.
 Event Assistants (incl. Ushers)  10 – 14 July 2008 To be ushers, distribute programs/orders of service, welcome people to events and to show participants to their seats for larger events.
Media Assistants
 8 – 14 July 2008 The main purpose of these roles are to assist in the media centre, report on the days activities, update the web daily, assist in the press box, assisting cameramen, etc.
 Catering Assistants  10 – 14 July 2008 To assist in the preparation and distribution of food to guests, participants, volunteers and staff where required.
